Keyword Rankings (In Gooogle, Yahoo, Bing)
Search engine rankings are constantly changing. They evaluate new data all the time and make rankings accordingly. This will change your keyword rankings in each of the search engines.

So how do you check your keyword rankings? There are a few ways to go about doing this. One way, is to type in your keyword and go through the results until you come to the page with your website listed on it.

For example: If there are 10 results on a page and your are the first result on the 3rd page, your rank for that keyword would be 21.

As you can see if you don’t rank well for a word, it can be pretty time consuming to do it this way.
Another way to check is to read your server logs. If you look at the refers in your serer logs, you can see which keywords you are getting traffic for and are most likely ranking better for as well.

Traffic Analysis
The main purpose of doing SEO work on your website is so you can get more free traffic! So you are going to want to keep track of a few things, so you know where it’s coming from and where its going. Your websites analytics software can tell you exactly what’s going on.

Uniques – This is the number of people that actually visit your site during any given period of time. Many advertising companies place value on this number when deciding whether to allow you to publish their ads.

Total Visits – This is an interesting number. It measures the total number of times your unique visitors come to your site. In other words, if you come to my website 30 times this month, each one of those will count towards my total visits for the month.

Now what constitutes a visit? A visit is a series of page requests by a uniquely identified client within a 30 min time frame. Basically if you do not make a request within 30 minutes, the session is over.

So what’s so important about this number? Well this number allows you to gauge your visitor’s loyalty. If you take your total visits and divide it by your unique visitors, you can determine the percentage of repeat visitors.

Page Views – Some CPM ad networks have a requirement that your website have a certain amount of page views per month. Other than that, this number just tells you how many times pages have been requested from your website.

Time on Site – This number is a more important indicator about your sites ability to keep people interested. This is the amount of time during a visit that someone is spending on your site before they “bounce” off or leave your website. The better your content or the more pages someone is viewing, will cause them to spend more time on your website. Again, its another great thing to tell perspective advertisers.

Referring Sites – This is one of the most important metrics we will be discussing today. This gives you a wealth of information regarding where your websites traffic is coming from. Is it coming from search engines, PPC, or other individual websites.

Anchor Text Relevance – Creating the right anchor text for you links is important so you can rank well for the keywords you are trying to target. If you analyze your competitors, you can see which anchor text they are using as well as how many backlinks they have for each keyword.

Competitor Backlinks - Search engine rankings for keywords change all the time, so the minute you stop working on your SEO strategies you can start losing out to your competitors. Its important to keep an eye on their rank as well as your own so you can see if you are falling, as this will lead to less organic traffic to your site.
